The History
The Whittier Christian Businessmen's Committee (CBMC) originally started the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee 42 years ago. Jack Carmichael has been involved from the beginning.
The event is designed to preach the Gospel ("good news") of Jesus Christ and what He did over 2,000 years ago as He allowed Himself to be crucified, only to rise again after 3 days and ascend to the right hand of the Father. He came to pay a debt He did not owe, but was sent as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. The Breakfast reminds us that Jesus still knocks on the door of our lives, asking us to receive Him as our personal Lord and Savior. The Gospel is delivered by a keynote speaker who has made a personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ. The speaker shares his or her personal testimony about the impact of their decision to become a Christian upon their life and the lives of others.
The message is simple. The message is direct. The message is true. The message requires the listener to make a personal decision. The message is about hope for the future.
